Blog Post #50: Mystery Snippet

Hey All! Happy New Year 2020!

Lately, been watchin’/readin’ mysteries. Here’s my attempt. Don’t be cruel (..ha!):

A woman slid a cup across a table.
Gina leaned, sniffed. “What’s in it?”
“Same old, same old.”
“Same old what?”
The woman sighed. “Do you really think we’d harm you?”
“Who’s ‘we’? And who the hell are you? And where the hell am I?”
“Someplace safe.”
Gina peered around: log cabin walls, snow-covered branch outside a window, bearded man leaning—arms folded—in a doorway…handcuffed hands? “Safe? If all’s safe, why am I cuffed?”
The woman glanced over her shoulder at the man. “Because those cuffs are what keeps ‘all’ safe.” She gestured toward the cup. “Drink your tea.” She stood and then ambled toward the doorway.
Gina hammered hands atop the table. “Where do you think you’re going? Let me go or I’ll—”
“I know you’ve got questions,” the woman said and then halted. “Trust me, I did, too. I don’t have all the answers, but on my return, I’ll try.”
“I swear, lady, if you don’t uncuff me!”
“Food, water, cracked window—Tobias, here, will see to you.”
“You’ve got five seconds: one, two, th—”
“In a few days, I’ll return.” She walked out the room, and the door was shut. Suddenly, on the door: click, clack.
Gina dropped her head. “Bolted. Perfect.”
