Hey Everyone!
I trust all is well! November 30th marks the first anniversary of author Kent Haruf’s unfortunate passing. Back in 1999, Mr. Haruf published Plainsong, a novel set in fictional Holt, Colorado which follows the trials and tribulations of several citizens during their lives on the high plains. Given its graceful multi-viewpoint structure, whispery literary prose, and effortless character engagement, Plainsong proved revolutionary for my writing years ago and has remained a great influence.
Last year, I picked up Plainsong from the library and then heard Mr. Haruf had passed. This year however, I checked-out one of his works with the intention of both dedicating November to reading it and writing a commemorative post to celebrate his literary life and achievements. Given this, the fiction I plan to read this month is Eventide (2005), the novel which serves as the sequel to Plainsong. I’ve never read it before hence I’m ecstatic to do so and thereby revisit the delicate lives I’ve come to know over past years.
Happy reading!
