Synopsis:
Hungry to revive life after his parents’ fatal car accident, law student Nathan Stillborn relocates his two teenaged brothers to his late great-uncle Artemis’ empty Appalachian home where he longs for them an argument- and smoke-free summer while he work-studies at a university nearby. But when his youngest brother Aden inadvertently unearths Artemis’ genealogy book from the ash of a smashed urn in the cellar, physical changes roar-to-life within the brothers who—after rebuking an exiled wonderer’s encouragement to embrace the changes—ever more understand that Steeple Creek’s often abducted townspeople, finger-pointing town meetings, and mayor manor overlooking the town suggest a cannibalistic way-of-life far more humanlike than the man-eating folklore rumored to stalk the forest and timber mill—an understanding which curls town leader Mayor Garrett’s blood-smeared lips.
Pressured hence by neighboring mayors who long to conserve their own flinger-licking way-of-life, Garrett falsely attributes disappearances prior to the brothers’ arrival to their Stillborn lineage and recent cases to the three brothers—now dubbed the Beast Boys—themselves. With little recourse, the three then retreat into the forest fleeing both a burning home and tree-chipping buck-shots only to reencounter the exiled wonderer who reveals not only its identity and the stomach-turning purpose of Steeple Creek itself (dating back five centuries to the ‘pilgrims’) but also why it believes the area’s evil can be exposed if they creep back to town and investigate the mill. Can the Beast Boys rescue Steeple Creek from an appetite of destruction?
